Biography

Babal is a Brazilian popular music singer and songwriter, born in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, on February 17, 1957. His journey in music began in the 1970s, influenced by his brother Eri Galvão and the sound diversity he listened to on the Rio Grande broadcasting system, absorbing rhythms ranging from Waldick Soriano to Luiz Gonzaga, as well as Jackson do Pandeiro. This rich musical crossbreeding shaped his artistic identity and prepared him for the next steps in his career.

In the 1980s, he joined the band Flor de Cactus, a group that left Natal for Rio de Janeiro and recorded an album with the RCA record label. In the capital of Rio de Janeiro, Babal lived and worked with important names of the national scene such as Geraldo Azevedo, Zé Ramalho, Lenine, Joanna, and Cláudio Nucci, participating in shows and compositional partnerships. Back in Natal in the mid-decade, he consolidated a prolific career as a songwriter, accumulating over a hundred recordings of his works by various interpreters.

Throughout his career, Babal also expanded his work into phonographic production, musical direction, and the creation of soundtracks and advertising and political jingles. In his solo discography, notable albums include "Algumas para dançar, outras para ouvir", released in 1997 with guest appearances by Geraldo Azevedo and Cláudio Nucci, and "Escritos", from 2001, which featured Zé Ramalho and Renato Braz. He has also authored collaborative works, such as the project "Auto do Natal - O Menino e os Reis" and the album "Cineclube" alongside Lívio Oliveira.
