Biography
Bacamarte is a Brazilian progressive rock band formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1974 by guitarist Mario Neto, who was inspired by classical music and his early songwriting. The group underwent several lineup changes before establishing its classic formation featuring Neto, keyboardist Sérgio Villarim, bassist Delto Simas, percussionist Mr. Paul, flutist and accordionist Marcus Moura, and drummer Marco Veríssimo. Their early exposure on television caught the attention of international producers, eventually helping them secure radio airplay and build a dedicated underground following during the early 1980s.
In 1983, the group released their critically acclaimed debut album, Depois do Fim, which featured lead vocals by Jane Duboc and is widely celebrated as a masterpiece of progressive rock. Despite the album's success and growing popularity alongside emerging acts like Os Paralamas do Sucesso and Kid Abelha through broadcasts on Fluminense FM, the band eventually disbanded due to a shrinking independent music scene. Mario Neto later revived the name for subsequent projects, including the 1999 album Sete Cidades, before organizing notable reunion concerts in the 2010s with original members such as Jane Duboc and Marcus Moura.
