Biography

Baião de Quatro is a Brazilian forró band formed in 1999 in São Luís, Maranhão. The group's diverse origins, with members from Maranhão, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, and São Paulo, contribute to their unique sound. Their music masterfully blends traditional Pé-de-Serra forró with elements of Brazilian folklore and regional music, such as Bumba-Boi, Maracatu, and Coco. They also incorporate the influence of Reggae, a rhythm deeply ingrained in the culture of Maranhão.

The band's name was conceived by the renowned Maranhão singer and composer Chico César. Their debut album, distributed by Abril Music, achieved significant commercial success, selling around 18,000 copies in its first month. The album featured popular tracks like "Língua de Jacaré" and "Neblina da Paixão," alongside interpretations of classics by forró legends like Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro.

Baião de Quatro has been an active presence on the São Paulo university forró circuit. In 2004, they collaborated with the band Rastapé to record the CD "O som do forró" (The Sound of Forró) for Deck Discos. Their music continues to be a vibrant expression of Brazilian forró, enriched by regional influences and a modern sensibility.
