Biography

Banda Aquárius is a pioneering Brazilian electronic forró band established in 1990 in Fortaleza, Ceará, by businessman Emanuel Gurgel. Initially starting out by performing at local dances, the group became the inaugural act of the SomZoom Group, setting the stage for the explosive growth of the genre in the 1990s. Their energetic live shows and incorporation of electronic elements into traditional forró paved the way for the broader movement of modern forró.

Throughout their decades-long career, the band achieved significant milestones, releasing their debut vinyl album "Os Engomados do Forró" in 1993 and gaining national prominence with 1994's "Asas da Imaginação," which featured a tribute track to racing driver Ayrton Senna. Over the years, Banda Aquárius released numerous successful records, launched a dedicated acoustic project, and celebrated milestones such as their 25th-anniversary tour and a 30th-anniversary live DVD recorded in Fortaleza in 2019. Their music and dynamic performances alongside contemporaries have cemented their legacy in the Brazilian forró scene.
