Biography

Banda Beijo emerged in Salvador in 1988 from the traditional Bloco Beijo, marking the history of axé music and expanding its popularity beyond the Bahian carnival. Under the leadership of singer Netinho, the initial lineup helped transform the genre into a true national phenomenon between the years 1988 and 1992, incorporating influences ranging from Tim Maia to The Police.

After a period of hiatus, the group returned in 1998 under the leadership of Netinho, who introduced singer Gilmelândia, known as Gil, to the country. With this new lineup, the band achieved great success with hits like "Peraê", "Venha" and "Bate lata", earning the group's first gold record with a live album.

Throughout its trajectory, Banda Beijo underwent several reformulations and featured different vocalists after Gil's departure in 2001, including Levi Alvim, Ninah Bartilotti, Guga Fernandes and, more recently, Millany Garcia. The group consolidated its name on the national scene alongside artists like Ivete Sangalo, Márcia Freire and Carla Visi, keeping the energy and rhythmic diversity of Bahian music alive.
