Biography

Banda Catedral is a Brazilian rock group formed in Nilópolis, Rio de Janeiro, in 1988. Initially, the band stood out in the gospel scene, with lyrics addressing positive Christian messages, love, and politics. With a trajectory marked by hits and some controversies, Catedral solidified itself as one of the most notable Christian rock bands in Brazil during the 1990s. The vocal similarity of their lead singer, Kim, to Renato Russo, from Legião Urbana, also caught the attention of the media and the public.

In 1999, the band decided to expand its reach beyond the Christian market, signing with Warner Music Brasil. This transition to the secular market sparked discussions among fans, but opened doors to new opportunities and recognition at awards shows like MTV's VMB. Despite having left the gospel niche, Catedral maintained its lyrical essence, exploring social themes and reflections on life, love, and peace.

The band has released over 30 albums and sold millions of copies throughout their career, solidifying their name in national rock. The current lineup features brothers Kim (vocals), Júlio Cézar (bass), and Guilherme Morgado (drums), who continue to produce music and perform across Brazil, maintaining a legacy of over three decades in Brazilian music. The group is also known for their ability to blend different musical styles, ranging from alternative rock to pop rock, with influences spanning from MPB to acoustic rock.
