Biography

Banda Djavú is a Brazilian musical group formed in late 2008 in the state of Bahia, specifically originating in the city of Capim Grosso. The band was founded by members Nádila Freire, Geandson Rios, and DJ Juninho Portugal, drawing their name from the French term "déjà vu," which translates to "already seen." They quickly achieved national prominence through hit songs such as "Não Desligue o Telefone" and "Me Libera (O Que Pensa Que Eu Sou)," which heavily resonated across radio stations and television programs throughout Brazil. Their distinctive sound and popularity grew even further after the track "Nave do Amor" was selected for the soundtrack of the RecordTV telenovela Bela, a Feia.

The group is widely recognized for popularizing the tecnobrega genre—a musical style that originated in Pará combining electronic and pop music elements with regional rhythms like Calypso and electronic forró—bringing it to mainstream audiences in the southern and southeastern regions of the country. Their high-energy live performances feature a blend of guitar, bass, accordion, and electronic beats provided by DJ Juninho Portugal, complemented by choreographed dance routines. Due to complex legal disputes over trademark rights and various lineup changes over the years, including departures and returns of key members like Nádila Freire and DJ Juninho Portugal, the band underwent multiple iterations while founder Geandson Rios maintained the core project.

Throughout its turbulent history, the group faced various trademark battles and the emergence of unauthorized cover bands, prompting name adjustments such as Banda Djavú e DJ Juninho Portugal. Despite these internal and judicial conflicts involving figures like entrepreneur DJ Maluco, members of the original and subsequent formations have continued to tour and release music in various configurations. In late 2015 and early 2016, the group performed as a major attraction at the official New Year's Eve celebration on Avenida Paulista in São Paulo, cementing their lasting footprint in Brazilian popular music alongside acts associated with the tecnobrega and tecnoforró movements.
