Biography

Banda Eva is one of the most prominent and traditional musical groups associated with the axé genre in Brazil. Originating in Salvador in 1977 as a student club formed by friends from Colégio Marista, the organization gradually evolved into a famous carnival block by 1980. Over the years, the block was led by various notable artists, including Aderson Cirne, Jota Morbeck, Carlinhos Caldas, Luiz Caldas, Marcionílio, Ricardo Chaves, and Durval Lélys, before music producers decided to transform the concept into an official touring and recording band in 1993.

The group achieved national superstardom in the mid-1990s under the powerful vocal leadership of Ivete Sangalo. During her tenure, Banda Eva released massive hit records like Beleza Rara and their landmark live album, selling millions of copies and cementing iconic anthems such as "Eva", "Arerê", and "Me Abraça". After Ivete Sangalo departed for a hugely successful solo career, the band sustained its presence through subsequent lead vocalists, including Emanuelle Araújo, Saulo Fernandes, and eventually Felipe Pezzoni, continuing to innovate within the Bahian music scene by incorporating rich Afro-Brazilian rhythms and reggae elements.

Throughout its history, Banda Eva has served as a vital incubator for Brazilian musical talent, collaborating with major figures like Daniela Mercury, Xuxa, Maria Bethânia, and Carlinhos Brown. The band has accumulated numerous awards, multi-platinum certifications, and Latin Grammy recognition, remaining an enduring symbol of Salvador's vibrant carnival culture and the broader evolution of axé music.
