Biography

Banda Pinel was a Brazilian musical group originating from Salvador, Bahia, which made its mark on the Bahia carnival scene starting in 1982. Part of the company Cheiro Produções Artísticas/Grupo Cheiro, the band stood out for its irreverence and technological innovation on its sound trucks (trios elétricos). The band's symbol, a "crazy little guy" (maluquinho) created by cartoonist Zé Vieira and later adapted by illustrator Pedrinho Da Rocha, became a trademark.

Throughout its trajectory, Banda Pinel featured various artists who would go on to establish themselves in Brazilian music. Among them are Ricardo Chaves, who was the band's lead singer between 1982 and 1987, and Durval Lelys, who besides being a guitarist and leader, also took on lead vocals and later founded the renowned band Asa de Águia. The band recorded its first album in 1985, featuring compositions by Durval Lelys and the participation of musicians such as Luiz Caldas.

Banda Pinel is remembered as a milestone in the history of axé music and the Salvador carnival, serving as a model for other blocos and influencing generations. Its contagious energy and ability to innovate during the carnival made it a reference, even after it ceased operations. The band left a legacy of irreverence and joy, consolidating itself as an important part of Bahia's musical culture.
