Biography

Banda Styllus is a prominent Brazilian forró group founded in July 1989 by singer and songwriter Edinir Maia alongside his six siblings. Originally called "Banda Styllus 7" representing the seven musical notes and the seven siblings, the band released their debut album "Mistura" in 1991 under the name Ednir e Banda Styllus. Following the tragic passing of their founder in a motorcycle accident in 1992, brothers Ailson Maia and Joáb Maia assumed leadership of the group, continuing their musical journey and eventually signing with Som Zoom in 1994 to release successful records like "Dor de Saudade".

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the group cemented their presence in the northeastern forró scene while periodically exploring other regional rhythms. In 2001, they achieved massive national acclaim and mainstream television exposure with the release of the lambadão hit "Toque Toque DJ" from the album "O Lambadão 2001". Despite branching out into lambadão temporarily, Banda Styllus ultimately returned to their signature forró roots, releasing numerous albums over decades of activity and celebrating milestone anniversaries like their 30th year in 2019, much like contemporaries such as Mastruz com Leite.
