Biography

Banda Sunday is a musical group from São Paulo that gained notoriety between the 1970s and 1980s, standing out for its repertoire sung entirely in English, an unusual characteristic in the Brazilian music scene at the time. Formed in 1970, the band went through several line-ups throughout its trajectory, but maintained Hélio Eduardo Costa Manso and Vivian Costa Manso as its pillars. The group became notable for its cover versions of international hits, such as "Well All Right" (Buddy Holly), "I'm Gonna Get Married" (Lou Christie), and "Sit Down I Think I Love You" (Buffalo Springfield), in addition to original compositions like "Hand By Hand (Side By Side)".

The success of "I'm Gonna Get Married" earned the band the award for best-selling record in Brazil in the 70s. Between 1980 and 1987, Sunday was a resident attraction at Victoria Pub in São Paulo. In 1982, under the name Midnight Ramblers, they released a country music album. The band also contributed to the soundtrack of the TV Bandeirantes soap opera "Os Imigrantes", featuring the opening theme song. In 2000, they participated in the Celebration 2000 event at Clube Pinheiros, alongside other names in Brazilian music.

Banda Sunday remains active, featuring members from the original line-up and new members, maintaining its international rock and pop style. Hélio Costa Manso, one of the founders, also had a successful career as a music producer and composer for Rede Globo telenovela soundtracks under the pseudonym Steve MacLean. Fábio Gasparini, another member, was the guitarist for the band Magazine, and Vivian Costa Manso was a member of the group Harmony Cats and the Super Som T.A. orchestra.
