Roberto Tadeu de Souza, known professionally as Bebeto, is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and guitarist, born on September 7, 1947, in São Paulo. He is widely recognized as one of the pioneers and a leading figure of the "samba-rock" genre in Brazil, earning him the monikers "King of Samba-Rock," "King of Swing," and "King of the Bailes" (parties). Bebeto's musical journey began in his youth, influenced by his mother's piano playing and his brothers' guitar skills. His early career involved playing guitar for other artists and composing jingles before launching his solo career.

Bebeto's distinctive sound emerged in the 1970s, a period when foreign rock and disco dominated Brazilian nightlife. He ingeniously blended samba rhythms with rock, soul, funk, and disco influences, creating an infectious and danceable style that resonated with audiences. His debut album, "Bebeto," was released in 1975, followed by "Esperanças Mil" in 1977, which marked a significant breakthrough with hits like "Você é a paz que me acalma" and "Água, água." His 1978 album, "Cheio de Razão," is often considered a masterpiece, perfectly encapsulating his genre-blurring style. He continued to release a prolific number of albums throughout the 1980s, solidifying his status as a samba-rock icon.

Throughout his career, Bebeto has collaborated with numerous prominent Brazilian artists, including Jorge Ben Jor, Tim Maia, Cassiano, and Marcelo D2. He is celebrated for his smooth tenor voice, innovative musical arrangements, and his ability to consistently deliver engaging performances at live shows and bailes across Brazil and internationally.
