Biography
Bernardo Lobo, better known as Bena Lobo, was born in Rio de Janeiro on September 9, 1972. Son of renowned composer Edu Lobo and singer and acoustic guitarist Wanda Sá, and grandson of composer Fernando Lobo, Bena grew up immersed in the universe of Brazilian Popular Music. His artistic trajectory, however, began to consolidate after the age of 20, when he decided to dedicate himself professionally to music, starting his acoustic guitar studies with his mother.
Before establishing himself as a musician, Bena Lobo ventured into theater, participating in plays such as "O Ateneu" and "Capitães de areia", besides acting in an episode of the TV Globo series "Você Decide". His musical training deepened with studies in acoustic guitar, theory, harmony, and musical perception, having masters such as Célia Vaz, Ian Guest, and Bia Paes Leme. His musical career gained prominence with the release of his first album, "Nada Virtual", in 2000, which featured special guest appearances by artists such as Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento.
Throughout his career, Bena Lobo has released other notable albums, such as "Sábado" (2006), "Valentia" (2012), and "C'ALMA" (2018), the latter recorded in Lisbon with Brazilian, Portuguese, and Cape Verdean musicians. His compositions frequently explore partnerships with other artists, reflecting the rich web of collaborations in MPB. Bena Lobo moves through various Brazilian rhythms, applying new languages and influences to his work, always maintaining a strong connection with the roots of Brazilian popular music.
