Biography

Benedito Onofre Seviero was a renowned Brazilian composer and one of the most prominent figures in the traditional sertanejo music genre. Born in Trabiju, São Paulo, he began writing music at the age of 18, penning his first composition, Santa Cruz da Serra, in 1949, which was officially recorded in 1952. Throughout his prolific career, he amassed over two thousand recorded and re-recorded songs interpreted by more than three hundred musical acts.

His most celebrated and enduring success is the iconic song "Boate Azul," originally recorded by the duo Joaquim e Manuel, which became a monumental classic of the genre. In addition to his prolific songwriting achievements, Seviero also ventured into performing as a singer, forming a sertanejo duo named Evereste e Coliseu during the early 1980s. His vast body of work bridged generations of sertanejo artists, cementing his legacy in Brazilian popular culture.

Seviero collaborated and shared his artistry with countless luminaries of Brazilian country music, leaving an indelible mark alongside legendary interpreters such as Tião Carreiro e Pardinho, Milionário e José Rico, and Chitãozinho e Xororó. He passed away in Santo André in 2016 at the age of 84, following a heart attack. His timeless compositions continue to influence contemporary performers and fans of the sertanejo tradition alike.
