Biography
Benício Barbosa was an important Brazilian singer whose artistic career began in the mid-1920s. He stood out as the crooner of the prestigious Orquestra Típica Pixinguinha-Donga, an ensemble with which he recorded dozens of records as a soloist, making his mark on the history of our popular music alongside great names of the era.
His period of greatest projection occurred between the 1920s and 1930s, a time when he lent his voice to major record labels such as Odeon and Parlophon. In addition to his work with orchestras, he joined the famous Verde e Amarelo "troupe," sharing the stage with fundamental artists like Aracy Cortes and actively participating in the artistic scene of that time.
Benício Barbosa's vocal style bore the characteristic marks of that generation, displaying an interpretation heavily influenced by revue theater and traditional salon orchestras. His recorded work, immortalized in various 78 rpm recordings, remains a valuable document of the golden age of radio and the beginning of the recording industry in Brazil.
