Biography

Raimundo Roberto Morhy Barbosa, artistically known as Beto Barbosa, was born in Belém, Pará on February 27, 1955. Descended from a Lebanese family, he began his musical journey in his homeland before moving to Fortaleza, where he consolidated the first prominent steps of his artistic career.

National recognition came in the 1980s, when he established himself as the "King of Lambada" alongside groups such as the band Kaoma. His biggest hit, the song "Adocica", sold millions of copies and was part of the soundtracks of highly rated telenovelas on Brazilian television, such as O Sexo dos Anjos. Throughout his career, he has recorded dozens of albums, won important awards such as the Troféu Imprensa, and participated in highly visible programs, such as the reality show The Masked Singer Brasil.

Beto Barbosa's work has influenced and dialogued with various Caribbean and Latin rhythms, with his compositions being re-recorded by international artists. He maintains his legacy as one of the greatest exponents of lambada in Brazil, indirectly dialoguing with icons of MPB and national romantic music such as Roberto Carlos, who was among his artistic references.
