Biography

Black Drawing Chalks is a Brazilian stoner rock quartet founded in Goiânia in 2005. The creation of the band began in the hallways of the Graphic Design college, initially bringing together Victor Rocha, Douglas Castro, Denis de Castro, and Marco Bauer, the latter being later replaced by Renato Cunha. The group's name was inspired by a German brand of drawing charcoal, reflecting the members' strong connection to visual arts through the Bicicleta sem Freio studio.

Throughout its trajectory, the group stood out in the national independent scene with the release of critically acclaimed albums such as Big Deal and Life Is a Big Holiday for Us, both released by the Monstro Discos record label. Highly successful songs, such as "My Favorite Way", earned prominent awards and appearances at important Brazilian and international festivals, such as the SWU festival, Lollapalooza, and Canadian Music Week. The band's heavy and energetic sound also shared stages with major icons of world rock and opened doors for collaborations with national artists like Chuck Hipólitho and the band Hellbenders.

After stints by other guitarists like Edimar Filho and periods of hiatus, the current lineup features Victor Rocha, Braz Torres, Denis de Castro, and Douglas de Castro. Maintaining its relevance in the independent rock scene, the group returned to phonographic releases with projects produced in Goiânia, reaffirming its striking identity within Brazilian heavy music.
