Biography

Black Pantera is a Brazilian crossover thrash and hardcore punk band formed in Uberaba in April 2014 by brothers Charles Gama (guitar and vocals) and Chaene da Gama (bass), along with drummer Rodrigo "Pancho" Augusto. The group's name was created as a tribute to the Black Panthers, reflecting the combative stance of its Black members, who address themes such as politics, racism, and discrimination in their lyrics. Following the release of their self-titled debut album in 2015, the band began expanding its horizons, undertaking international tours that included a performance at the Afropunk festival in France and stops in countries such as the United States, Italy, and Colombia.

Over the years, the trio consolidated its importance in the national independent and heavy music scene with albums like Agressão, Ascensão, and Perpétuo, as well as notable EPs like Capítulo Negro and Griô. The power of their politically engaged music earned them various recognitions, including prominent nominations and awards granted by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA), the Prêmio Multishow, and winning the Brazilian Music Award in the Rock Artist category. The group also stood out on major stages and festivals, such as Rock in Rio, Lollapalooza Brazil, Best of Blues and Rock, and Bangers Open Air, sharing space with major national and international music icons.

The sound of Black Pantera is deeply influenced both by branches of metal and punk and by historical exponents of Black music and rock, echoing partnerships and connections with artists like Dead Fish, Devotos, Sepultura, O Rappa, Elza Soares, and Jorge Aragão. With a trajectory marked by critically acclaimed albums and a strong presence at globally relevant festivals, the trio from Minas Gerais continues as one of the most powerful and defiant names in contemporary Brazilian heavy music.
