Biography
Karla Regina Francelino Rodrigues, better known as Blaya, is a Luso-Brazilian singer, songwriter, and dancer born in Fortaleza, Ceará, in 1987. Having moved to Portugal when she was just two months old, she grew up immersed in a diverse cultural background that later heavily influenced her artistic style, blending elements of Afro-beats, Brazilian funk, and rap.
Her professional music career gained widespread recognition when she joined the pioneering electronic group Buraka Som Sistema in 2008, performing with them globally at major festivals until the group went on an extended hiatus in 2016. Following her tenure with the band, she embarked on a successful solo career, releasing EPs and collaborating with numerous artists such as Anitta, Agir, and Deejay Telio.
In 2018, Blaya achieved massive commercial success with her smash hit single "Faz Gostoso," which became one of the most prominent Portuguese-language tracks of the decade and later gained international acclaim when covered by Madonna. She subsequently released her debut studio album, Blaya Con Dios, in 2019, further cementing her unique position bridging European and Brazilian musical landscapes.
