Biography

Bloco Bahianidade is a Brazilian musical group that emerged in São Paulo in 2019, led by singer Denise Diniz. The bloc, as it is known in Brazil, is a type of street carnival association that animates festivities with percussion, singing, and dancing. Bahianidade draws heavily from the rich musical traditions of Bahia, a state in northeastern Brazil renowned for its vibrant carnival culture.

The repertoire of Bloco Bahianidade is a celebration of Bahian music, featuring energetic rhythms such as axé, ijexá, afro-Bahian music, and samba de roda. They also perform classic songs that have defined generations of Brazilian music. The group aims to bring the spirit of Salvador's carnival to São Paulo, creating an atmosphere of joy, malemolência (a characteristic Brazilian swagger), and suingue (groove).
