Biography
Bob Tostes is an influential Brazilian singer, songwriter, and music producer, with a career closely tied to the artistic scene of Minas Gerais. He began his prominent career in 1969, when he led the Minas Gerais branch of the Musicanossa movement, founded by composer Roberto Menescal. In the same year, he consolidated his name as a songwriter by becoming a finalist at the IV International Song Festival with the songs "Caminhada" and "Noite mais linda".
In addition to his original songwriting, Tostes played a fundamental role as a cultural promoter and producer. During the 1970s, he directed the Student Song Festival (FEC), an event that was a turning point for Brazilian music by revealing talents such as Lô Borges, Beto Guedes, and Toninho Horta, as well as serving as the stage for the revelation of the classic "Clube da Esquina". His versatility also led him to compose soundtracks for children's theater and to work as a music columnist for various newspapers in Minas Gerais.
With a discography that moves between bossa nova and jazz, Bob Tostes has recorded albums such as "Sinatra in Bossa" (at Menescal's invitation) and "Sessão Dupla - Novas Bossas". Throughout his career, he has shared the stage and studios with great names in Brazilian music, including Nara Leão, Jane Duboc, and Juarez Moreira, remaining a central figure in the preservation of the melodic and harmonic sophistication of MPB.
