Biography
Bobby Di Carlo was a Brazilian singer and songwriter who emerged as a prominent figure in the vibrant Jovem Guarda cultural movement of the 1960s. Born Roberto Caldeira dos Santos in São Paulo, he began his musical journey as a teenager, initially signing with Odeon Records and later co-founding the instrumental rock band The Jet Blacks as a guitarist. His transition to a solo career in the mid-1960s brought widespread recognition, particularly with his signature 1967 hit "Tijolinho", which earned him a Troféu Chico Viola and cemented his legacy within Brazilian popular music alongside contemporaries like Roberto Carlos.
Throughout the late 1960s, Di Carlo maintained his momentum by releasing multiple singles and full-length albums, featuring notable tracks such as "Cuidado Pra Não Derreter" and "O Ermitão". Although he stepped away from the active music scene in the early 1970s as the Jovem Guarda movement waned, his musical footprint endured through various retrospective releases. His work was celebrated decades later, with artists like Patife Band covering "Tijolinho" in 1985 and a 1998 compilation album reaffirming his lasting contributions to Brazilian rock and pop history.
