Biography

Bola Sete, born Djalma de Andrade in Rio de Janeiro, emerged as one of the most celebrated and innovative Brazilian guitarists in history. Growing up in a musical yet impoverished household, he began his journey with the cavaquinho before moving on to the acoustic guitar, eventually studying classical music and Brazilian folklore. His dedication to his craft led him to perform with regional groups at Rádio Nacional and study under maestro Moacir Santos alongside contemporaries like Baden Powell.

Relocating to the United States in the late 1950s, Bola Sete achieved international renown, earning praise from jazz critics and influencing legendary guitarists such as Carlos Santana. Throughout his career, which spanned decades of relentless practice and artistic evolution, he bridged the worlds of Brazilian music and jazz. He collaborated with various notable artists, including Dolores Duran, leaving a lasting legacy on the global music landscape before his passing in California in 1987.
