Biography

Bonde do Rolê was a Brazilian musical group formed in 2005 by singer Marina Vello and producers Rodrigo Gorky and Pedro Deyrot. The group became widely known for their humorous, satirical lyrics and their unique musical blend of funk carioca and indietronica. Following the departure of Marina Vello at the height of their initial success in late 2007, Laura Taylor assumed vocal duties until the group eventually disbanded.

In 2006, the band released their debut EP through MySpace, unexpectedly gaining significant traction in the United Kingdom and catching the attention of producer Diplo. This international buzz led to signings with Mad Decent and Domino Records, culminating in the release of their acclaimed 2007 debut album, With Lasers. The album featured hits like "Solta o Frango" and "Marina Gasolina," earning them recognition from major publications such as The New York Times and Rolling Stone. Their distinct sound paved the way for future crossover acts in Brazilian alternative music, sharing artistic parallels with contemporaries like CSS and Banda UÓ.

After Marina's exit, the group recruited new vocalists through an MTV Brasil special, bringing in Laura Taylor and Ana Bernardino. Despite losing their initial momentum and major international label support temporarily, they returned in 2012 with the album Tropical Bacanal, shifting towards a more pop-oriented indietronica style. The band officially concluded their activities in 2015, leaving a lasting legacy on independent Brazilian electronic and comedy music.
