Biography

Bonde do Tigrão is a renowned Brazilian carioca funk group formed in 1999 in Rio de Janeiro, widely recognized as one of the pioneers of modern funk and its striking choreographies. The project began when Leandrinho and Gustavo, residents of Cidade de Deus, started performing together singing funk, expanding the lineup the following year with the addition of dancers Vaguinho and Thiaguinho. The group gained strong prominence by performing at Furacão 2000, achieving enormous national success with hits like "Cerol na Mão", produced by Dennis DJ, and "Tchutchuca".

The group's self-titled debut album, released in 2001 by Sony Music and produced by names like Umberto Tavares and Mãozinha, sold over 250,000 copies in Brazil and received a Platinum certification from ABPD. Over the years, the lineup underwent several changes, with the departure of original members and the addition of new names like Maurício Santos, Carlos Gonzo, and DJ Binho, keeping the group's legacy active on subsequent albums like Pega o Bonde e Vem and Ressurreição.

Bonde do Tigrão's trajectory deeply marked the popularization of carioca funk on hit charts throughout the country, sharing stages and the rhythm's history with other exponents of the scene like Dennis DJ. With a striking discography that includes works like A Fera Voltou, the group continues to be a fundamental cultural reference for the evolution of urban music and popular dances in Brazil.
