Biography

Bozzo Barretti, born August 29, 1956, is a Brazilian composer, pianist, and arranger who has made significant contributions to the Brazilian music scene. His musical journey began at a very young age, showing an intuitive talent for the piano by age five and composing by age eight. He graduated in classical composition from the University of São Paulo (USP), laying a strong foundation for his career. Barretti's professional career started in 1975 with the progressive rock band Mitra, performing at the iconic Iacanga festival. In 1980, he co-founded the band Sabor de Veneno, collaborating with Arrigo Barnabé on key projects of the "Vanguarda Paulistana" movement, a significant artistic collective in São Paulo.

Throughout the 1980s, Barretti emerged as a prominent figure, working with a diverse range of artists such as Laura Pausini, Tim Maia, Toquinho, and Capital Inicial. His tenure with Capital Inicial saw him contribute as a member, composer, and producer, creating several of the band's hits. Beyond his work with bands, Barretti has also been active as a studio musician, arranger, and composer of soundtracks for television shows, soap operas, and commercials, showcasing his versatility.

In his solo work, Barretti explores a more introspective and minimalist style, often featuring piano pieces that draw inspiration from minimalism, serialism, and atonalism, while always maintaining a strong melodic core. His albums, such as "Beyond the Edge, Before the Stars" and "Nømad," highlight his elegant musical writing and his ability to blend complex influences with accessible melodies. Barretti's career is marked by continuous innovation and a deep engagement with various facets of music creation.
