Biography

Carlos Alberto Ferreira Braga, widely known as Braguinha or by the pseudonym João de Barro, was born in Rio de Janeiro and established himself as one of the greatest composers in the history of Brazilian popular music. Initially an architecture student, he adopted the stage name inspired by the builder bird to avoid family disapproval of the musical environment at the time, joining the famous Bando de Tangarás alongside fundamental figures like Noel Rosa.

Throughout his career, Braguinha accumulated over four hundred recorded compositions, marking generations with carnival marches, sambas, and children's songs that became true national classics. Among his most memorable works are hits like "Chiquita Bacana", "As Pastorinhas", and the famous lyrics composed for the classic samba-choro "Carinhoso", an original instrumental work by Pixinguinha that gained a voice in the interpretation of Orlando Silva.

His contribution to Brazilian culture spanned decades, including dubbing work for Walt Disney productions and several successful partnerships with composers like Alberto Ribeiro. Braguinha passed away in his hometown at the age of 99, leaving an indelible legacy on the country's musical identity and being immortalized in tributes by samba schools such as Mangueira.
