Biography
Joaquim Cláudio Corrêa de Mello Júnior, better known as Branco Mello, was born in São Paulo on March 16, 1962. The son of a father connected to Bossa Nova and a mother involved in theatrical productions, he grew up immersed in diverse cultural influences ranging from classic cinema to rock and MPB. In his adolescence, he formed fundamental musical bonds when he met future bandmates such as Marcelo Fromer and Tony Bellotto, beginning his journey in Brazilian music.
In 1982, he consolidated his name in the alternative scene by joining the original lineup of the band Titãs, taking on central roles as vocalist and, later, also assuming the duties of bassist. Throughout decades at the helm of the group, he stood out not only for his energetic stage presence, but also for his work in preserving the band's memory, using home cameras to record the group's trajectory since the 1980s — material that resulted in the acclaimed documentary "Titãs - A Vida até Parece uma Festa", released in 2001.
Alongside Titãs, Branco Mello has been involved in side projects such as the heavy sound group Kleiderman, formed in the 1990s alongside Sérgio Britto and Roberta Parisi, as well as ventures aimed at children, such as the "Eu e Meu Guarda-Chuva" project. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with expressive names in national music such as Arnaldo Antunes, Cássia Eller, Elza Soares, and Nando Reis, reaffirming his artistic versatility and his importance to Brazilian rock.
