Biography

Breno Ferreira Hehl was a Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Rio de Janeiro on October 18, 1907. His artistic career began while he was studying law, and he became known for his emboladas and sambas. He was one of the first artists to record for Victor in Brazil, debuting in 1929 with the song "Forga nego." His hit "Andorinha preta," composed in 1925, was later re-recorded by Nat King Cole in the 1960s, gaining international recognition. Ferreira also recorded compositions by renowned artists such as Sinhô, Joubert de Carvalho, Pixinguinha, Heitor dos Prazeres, and Josué de Barros. He collaborated with artists like Silvio Caldas and Carmen Miranda.

After graduating in law, Ferreira largely abandoned his artistic career to focus on his legal profession. However, he also distinguished himself as a pioneer in cooperativism in Brazil, publishing several books on the subject. Despite dedicating himself to other fields, his musical legacy endured, with his songs being recorded by various artists over the years.

Breno Ferreira passed away in Rio de Janeiro on November 23, 1966, at the age of 59. His contributions to Brazilian music, particularly in the genres of embolada and samba, remain significant, and his song "Andorinha preta" stands as a testament to his lasting impact, having achieved international acclaim through Nat King Cole's rendition.
