Biography

João Adelino Leal Brito, known as Britinho, was a prominent Brazilian pianist, composer, and arranger. Born in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, on May 5, 1917, he hailed from a family with a strong musical background, including his father João, uncles Henrique and José, and brother Rubens, all of whom were also musicians.

Britinho began his professional career at the age of 18 in 1935 as a pianist for Rádio Cultura in his hometown. He later moved to Porto Alegre in 1936 to work at Rádio Farroupilha, and by 1939, he was performing in radio stations and nightclubs in São Paulo. In 1941, he relocated to Rio de Janeiro, which was then the federal capital, where he pursued various artistic activities until his death in 1966.

His career in Rio de Janeiro spanned from 1941 to 1966, during which he became known as a "pianist of the night," performing in the nightclubs of the Zona Sul between 1951 and 1954. He also had a prolific recording career, releasing over 120 records between 1951 and 1965. Britinho composed more than a hundred songs, both solo and in collaboration with other artists, contributing significantly to the Brazilian popular music scene.
