Biography

Bruno Castro is a Brazilian musician, composer, and professor born in Rio de Janeiro, where he grew up immersed in the local samba culture by frequenting the traditional circles of Cacique de Ramos. His early exposure to the genre shaped his musical trajectory, eventually leading to deep personal and professional ties with legendary figures of the movement.

In 1997, after graduating with a degree in Physical Education from UFRJ, he was invited to join the backing band of the iconic singer and composer Dona Ivone Lara. Touring extensively across Brazil and internationally throughout Europe, Africa, and the Americas, he established a lasting collaboration with her that resulted in notable projects, including the acclaimed collaborative album Nas Escritas da Vida and the recording of Baú da Dona Ivone.

Beyond his performance work with Dona Ivone Lara, Bruno Castro released his debut solo CD in 2006, featuring guest appearances from prominent artists such as Luís Carlos da Vila and Thaís Mota. His artistic contributions to samba have been widely recognized by leading cultural critics, cementing his reputation as a dedicated keeper of traditional Brazilian popular music.
