Biography

Claucirlei Jovêncio de Souza, better known by his stage name Buchecha, is a prominent Brazilian singer and songwriter born in São Gonçalo on April 1, 1975. Growing up in a modest family, he faced early hardships and worked various odd jobs before finding his path in music, initially participating in local pagode groups and eventually being introduced to the vibrant world of Brazilian funk by his childhood friend Claudinho.

In 1992, Buchecha and Claudinho formed the iconic duo Claudinho & Buchecha, achieving massive national success with their signature funk melody style. Their 1996 self-titled debut album sold over one million copies, driven by massive hits like "Conquista" and "Rap da Bandeira Branca." The duo released numerous successful albums and performed internationally until the tragic death of Claudinho in a car accident in 2002. Following the loss, Buchecha embarked on a successful solo career, collaborating with notable Brazilian artists such as Ivete Sangalo, Lulu Santos, and Jorge Vercillo.

Throughout his decades-long career, Buchecha has cemented his legacy as a pioneer of funk melody, releasing acclaimed albums like Buchecha Acústico and Funk Pop. His timeless compositions have been covered by various artists across different genres, including Kid Abelha and Adriana Calcanhoto. Today, he remains a celebrated figure in Brazilian music, continuing to perform nationwide and inspiring new generations of artists.
