Born in Olinda, Pernambuco, Buguinha Dub's musical journey began in the vibrant scene of the 1990s manguebeat movement. His father, José Luiz, known as Buga Som, was a renowned sound engineer, providing Buguinha with an early immersion into the world of sound and music. This upbringing, surrounded by equipment and sound systems, naturally led him to develop a unique approach to music production and sound engineering.

Buguinha Dub is recognized as a master of dub music, a Jamaican-born genre that heavily influences electronic music worldwide. His signature style involves "adubando" (seasoning) tracks with his distinct mixes, characterized by the use of analog echoes, spring reverbs, and delays, alongside digital sound processing. This distinctive sound has made him a sought-after producer and engineer, working with a wide array of artists across different genres.

Over his career, Buguinha Dub has lent his expertise to numerous acclaimed artists, including Racionais MC's, Nação Zumbi, Mundo Livre S/A, Natiruts, Manu Chao, and Baiana System, among others.
