Biography
João Encarciel Alves Pacheco, artistically known as Buk Jones, is a Brazilian singer and songwriter who emerged in the Bahia music scene in the early 1980s. His career began with performances in dance bands in Salvador, Bahia, and he soon gained prominence as the lead singer of groups like Banda Tapajós and, later, Banda Novos Bárbaros, where he sang alongside Sarajane. His trajectory was solidified when he took over the vocals of Banda Mel, participating in the original lineup between 1985 and 1989.
With Banda Mel, Buk Jones achieved great national success, especially with the album "Força Interior" (1987), which sold over one million copies and landed hits such as the song "Faraó Divindade do Egito", which became an axé music anthem. His carnival performances and contagious energy made him a prominent figure in the genre during the 80s and 90s.
After his time with Banda Mel, Buk Jones pursued a solo career and also joined Banda Gente Brasileira, continuing to explore the universe of axé and Brazilian popular music. In his career, which spans over four decades, he stands out for his authenticity and for advocating for an axé music with lyrics that address social and behavioral issues, criticizing the superficiality and the "political correctness" that, in his view, the genre sometimes adopts. He is recognized as one of the precursors of axé music and an artist who left his mark on the history of Bahian music.
