Biography

Maurício Pinheiro Reis, better known as Biafra or Byafra, was born in Niterói on October 15, 1957. He began his artistic journey in childhood by joining choirs and studying the flute, gaining prominence in the 1970s as the lead singer of the band O Circo before launching his highly successful solo career in Brazilian romantic music.

Throughout his career, he released striking albums that charted several hits on telenovela soundtracks, most notably songs like "Leão Ferido" and "Sonho de Ícaro." His work as a composer and performer has also been recorded by major names in national music, such as Roberto Carlos, Ney Matogrosso, and Simone.

In his vast discography, the artist has sold millions of copies, earning gold records and remaining active with commemorative tours and new releases. He has solidified his name in the history of MPB and romantic song, connecting with generations of fans and great performers across the country.
