Biography

Camila Costa is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and acoustic guitarist born in Rio de Janeiro in 1982. She began her musical journey at age 12, dedicating herself to the acoustic guitar after taking classical ballet classes in childhood. Her professional career began early, at age 14, playing in nightclubs in Rio de Janeiro. At 16, she was awarded female revelation at a festival in Goianá, Minas Gerais.

In 2000, Camila Costa co-founded the samba group Sururu na Roda, alongside Nilze Carvalho, Fabiano Salek, and Sílvio Carvalho. With the group, she released the CDs "Arco da Velha" (2002) and "Sururu na Roda" (2004), the latter featuring a special guest appearance by Chico Buarque. Sururu na Roda was a pioneer in the revitalization of the Lapa neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, standing out for its original arrangements and vocals. The artist also participated in shows by Wilson Moreira and Nei Lopes, in addition to acting in theatrical plays.

In 2005, Camila Costa released her first solo album, "Reflexo", on the Fina Flor label, presenting her own compositions and partnerships with Ruy Quaresma. Her career also includes samba workshops in the United States, international performances, and the composition of soundtracks for theater, dance, and cinema. With a career that moves between popular and experimental music, Camila Costa explores Brazilian rhythms such as samba, ijexá, maracatu, and bossa nova, blending them with modern arrangements and poetic lyricism, while maintaining a strong connection to the roots of Brazilian music.
