Biography

Canário e Passarinho is a famous country music duo formed by brothers Antônio Bergamo, known as Canário, and Pedro Bergamo, known as Passarinho, born in Altinópolis, in the interior of São Paulo. Raised in an Italian colony and working from an early age in coffee farming, the brothers began their artistic career influenced by great names of the genre, such as Tonico & Tinoco and Vieira & Vieirinha, initially performing at school parties under the name Canário e Canarinho. The move to the capital of São Paulo occurred after their success on "Roda de Violeiros," on Rádio Clube de Orlândia, kicking off a remarkable recording trajectory that spanned dozens of records, including LPs, CDs, and singles.

Throughout their career, the duo recorded for major record labels such as Chantecler and Califórnia, landing memorable hits like "Gaiola de Ouro" and "Eu, ela e o garçom." Due to a name clash with another duo at the time, Pedro adopted the stage name Passarinho, cementing the final lineup. They are widely recognized as fundamental members of the second generation of country music, standing out for modernizing the style by incorporating electric instruments and varied rhythms, paving the way for what would become contemporary sertanejo alongside scene partners such as Abel & Caim and Belmonte & Amaraí.

In addition to studio recordings and radio programs, Canário e Passarinho maintained strong contact with the general public through performances in circuses, theatrical plays featuring their own compositions, and interactions with the jovem guarda universe. With a vast and award-winning discography, the brothers left their mark on Brazilian cultural history, keeping the lyricism and tradition of the country acoustic guitar alive for several decades.
