Biography

Born in Serrinha, Bahia, Capenga Ventura began his musical journey in the 1960s, playing in a dance band. His career gained momentum in Salvador in 1970 when he formed the group Bendegó with Gereba. Bendegó was known for its rhythmic originality and attracted significant attention from both audiences and critics, leading to a recording contract facilitated by Roberto Menescal.

Ventura's musical path has been marked by diverse collaborations and explorations. He has performed and recorded with notable Brazilian artists such as Jackson do Pandeiro, Moraes Moreira, Caetano Veloso, and Walter Smeták. His involvement with the group Vozes e Viola further showcased his versatility, leading to a friendship with Pena Branca and Xavantinho, whom he would later accompany.

Throughout his career, Capenga Ventura has been recognized for his skill as a guitarist, particularly on the 12-string guitar. His work spans various genres, reflecting a rich tapestry of Brazilian musical influences. In 1998, he released his first solo album, "Outras Palavras," a culmination of years of musical exploration and composition, featuring songs he deemed mature and representative of his artistic trajectory.
