Biography

Carim Mussi is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, born in the countryside of Minas Gerais and based in Rio de Janeiro since 1935. His artistic career began in 1955, with the recording of his march "O gato da madame", in partnership with Armando Nunes, by singer Zilá Fonseca. Throughout his career, Mussi released several LPs, such as "Esquina da saudade – VOL. 1" (1966), "No tempo da seresta" (1968), and the "Nostalgia" series, culminating in "Nostalgia – VOL. IV" in 1976. His work moves between seresta, samba, and Brazilian popular music, frequently featuring arrangements by Armando Nunes and the participation of renowned musicians such as Altamiro Carrilho on flute and Niquinho on mandolin.

Mussi also stood out for his work on other fronts, having been a co-creator of the 1st Brazilian Seresta Festival in 1969 in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to his musical career, he worked as a journalist in outlets such as the newspaper Luta Democrática and the magazines Revista Méier News and Vamos Sambar. His discography, which includes LPs and EPs, reflects consistent work in the preservation and dissemination of traditional Brazilian music, with a special focus on seresta.

The artist is remembered for his dedication to Brazilian popular music, especially the seresta genre. His work, often recorded independently or by labels such as Olympic and Caravelle, is an important record of the music of that era.
