Biography
Carlos Augusto, born Antônio de Souza Moura on July 10, 1931, in Fortaleza, Ceará, was a prominent Brazilian singer who achieved significant success in Rio de Janeiro.
He began his singing career at Rádio Iracema in Fortaleza before moving to Rio de Janeiro in 1950 to study at Colégio Pedro II. His talent led him to become a crooner for the orchestra at the Night and Day nightclub. In 1952, he embarked on a tour of the Northeast with Emilinha Borba, which boosted his career in Rio. Subsequently, he was hired by Rádio Nacional, with support from fellow Ceará native César de Alencar.
Adopting the stage name Carlos Augusto, he released his first record in 1952, featuring the fox trot "Meu Sonho de Amor" and the samba-canção "Briguei com Você." Throughout his career, he recorded various musical styles, often accompanied by orchestras such as Lyrio Panicali's and Osvaldo Borba's. He recorded for labels like Sinter, Polydor, Odeon, and Philips, releasing numerous 78 rpm singles and six LPs. His repertoire included songs by notable composers like Vinícius de Moraes, Jair Amorim, and Lupicínio Rodrigues.
Carlos Augusto's career spanned nearly 15 years, during which he recorded 40 singles and six albums. His final recording was the march "Amei" for the 1967 carnival. Tragically, his life was cut short in a car accident on October 26, 1968, in Ceará.
