Biography

Carlos Careqa, born Carlos de Souza in Lauro Müller, is a versatile Brazilian actor, singer, and composer whose career spans several decades. Raised in Curitiba, he dedicated himself to studying both theater and music before spending the 1990s performing in European nightclubs across Berlin and Geneva. Upon returning to Brazil, he settled in São Paulo, where he became deeply involved in the vibrant local arts scene and joined the group Pêlo Público.

During his time in São Paulo, Careqa formed creative partnerships with prominent figures of the avant-garde movement, most notably Arrigo Barnabé, with whom he co-directed the Thanx God Records label. His extensive discography includes notable releases such as "Música para final de século", "Alma boa de lugar nenhum", and a tribute to Tom Waits titled "Por um pouco de veneno". Known for incorporating sharp humor and a wide-ranging genre versatility into his work, he has also established himself as a prolific producer and composer of soundtracks for theater productions and television commercials.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Careqa has maintained a successful career as an actor, appearing in several acclaimed Brazilian feature films. His cinematic credits include roles in Mara Mourão's "Alô?!" and "Avassaladoras", João Batista de Andrade's "O Tronco", and Laís Bodanski's award-winning drama "Bicho de Sete Cabeças". Through his eclectic musical style and continuous artistic output, he remains an important voice in contemporary Brazilian avant-garde and popular music.
