Biography

Carlos de Carvalho Colla was a renowned Brazilian songwriter and music producer, born in Niterói and raised in Teresópolis. Initially pursuing a career in law, he graduated in 1984 and practiced law for a decade, but his true passion remained deeply rooted in music. He started his artistic journey in the 1970s as a guitarist and eventually rose to prominence as one of the country's most prolific writers, penning over two thousand recorded songs.

Colla achieved massive success through his enduring partnerships with artists like Roberto Carlos, for whom he wrote dozens of hits, including "Falando Sério". Throughout his career, he collaborated with numerous legendary figures of Brazilian popular music, such as Chico Roque, Marcos Valle, and Sandra de Sá, crafting classics across diverse genres including MPB, samba, and sertanejo. His compositions were recorded by major icons like Leandro & Leonardo, Chitãozinho & Xororó, and Alcione.

In addition to songwriting, Colla made significant contributions as a producer, notably introducing the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo to Brazil in 1984 and writing successful Portuguese lyrics for their hits. He remained active in the music industry for decades, releasing his own work as a performer and celebrating his extensive career before passing away in Rio de Janeiro in 2023. His legacy is permanently etched into Brazilian cultural history, commemorated even through public tributes such as the naming of Praça Carlos Colla in Rio de Janeiro.
