Biography

Carlos Imperial was a prominent Brazilian artistic producer, songwriter, and show business personality who played a fundamental role in launching the careers of legendary artists such as Roberto Carlos, Elis Regina, and Tim Maia. Known for his flamboyant and controversial lifestyle, he was a driving force behind the Brazilian rock movement in the 1950s and 1960s, founding the Clube do Rock and later making significant contributions to television, cinema, theater, and carnival culture.

Throughout his multifaceted career, Imperial worked across various entertainment mediums, producing television programs, writing hit songs, and acting in and producing films. He was also famous for coining the iconic carnival scoring catchphrase "Dez, nota dez!", and he later ventured into politics, becoming the most-voted city councilman in Rio de Janeiro in 1982. Despite his controversial methods and frequent feuds orchestrated for publicity, his impact on Brazilian popular culture from the 1960s to the 1990s remains indelible.

Imperial passed away in 1992 at the age of 56 due to complications from myasthenia gravis following surgery. His legacy endures through the countless musicians he championed, including Erasmo Carlos and Wilson Simonal, cementing his status as one of the most influential figures in the history of Brazilian entertainment.
