Biography

Carlos Pontual is a Brazilian singer, composer, instrumentalist, arranger, and producer born in Rio de Janeiro on May 20, 1972. He has a strong academic background in music, having studied classical guitar, popular guitar, functional harmony, musical perception, jazz guitar, electric bass, piano, and popular singing. Pontual also pursued composition studies at Uni-Rio, where he took various courses. His early career saw him involved in several musical groups, including Caldo Grosso (instrumental music), SwingSuga (soul and MPB), Maracatamba (jazz and MPB), O Cara do Tempo (samba and choro), and Voz & Cia (a choir of classical, popular, and ethnic music). He also contributed to film soundtracks, notably for "Geraldo voador" (1994) and "Vicente" (1995), earning an award for Best Soundtrack for the former in collaboration with Rodrigo Maranhão and Eduardo Krieger.

In 1999, Pontual released his debut solo album, "Miolo do som," which he produced, composed, arranged, and performed on multiple instruments, including guitar, bass, and keyboards. He has also had his compositions recorded by other artists, such as the rock group A Bruxa! in 2000. Throughout the early 2000s, he participated in recordings by Barrosinho, Pedro Quental, and Vica Barcellos. Pontual's musical versatility is further highlighted by his decade-long collaboration with Nando Reis, showcasing his ability to adapt to different musical contexts and styles.

Pontual's artistic output extends beyond his solo work and group collaborations. He has explored various facets of music production and performance, including his involvement with the rock band Os Infernais from 2001 to 2010. In recent years, he has been making his music available online, citing the challenges of independent production and distribution for artists who create a large volume of work.
