Carmélia Alves was a renowned Brazilian singer who became a prominent figure in the golden age of radio and popular music. Born in Rio de Janeiro, she achieved massive success during the 1950s and was famously crowned the "Queen of Baião" by the legendary Luiz Gonzaga. Her soaring popularity extended beyond Brazil, captivating audiences across Latin America and prompting record labels to expand their operations to keep up with her high sales. Throughout her illustrious career, she performed at prestigious venues like the Copacabana Palace nightclub and even interpreted sambas in the vibrant style of Carmen Miranda.

Beyond her solo achievements, she shared the stage and recorded with various notable contemporaries, including Ivon Curi, with whom she performed the hit 'Me Leva'. Her extensive discography features classic recordings such as 'Sabiá na Gaiola', 'Coração Magoado', and 'Trepa no Coqueiro'.
