Biography

Carmen Queiroz is a Brazilian singer whose career began to take shape in the 1980s. Born in Cornélio Procópio, Paraná, her family's nomadic lifestyle led her to various cities in Brazil during her childhood and adolescence. Music was a constant presence, with her father encouraging his daughters to learn instruments and gather for musical evenings where they sang samba classics and popular hits. Queiroz's early talent was recognized when she won the "Revelation Award" at a local festival for her rendition of "Negue." Her move to Sorocaba to study literature marked a significant step, as she began performing in bars and clubs, honing her skills as a vocalist.

In 1982, seeking to pursue music professionally, Queiroz relocated to São Paulo. By the late 1980s, she became the vocalist for the group Bando Flor do Mato. Her solo career launched in 1989 with an independently produced album. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with various artists and contributed to projects that celebrate Brazilian music. Her discography includes albums like "Flor da Paz" (1989), "Leite Preto" (2000), "Do Meu Jeito" (2004), and "Enquanto Eu Fizer Canção" (2011), which pays tribute to MPB divas.

Carmen Queiroz has also been recognized for her work in poetry and music collaborations, notably with poet Cássio Junqueira. Together, they have presented shows that interweave music and poetry, performing pieces from Junqueira's works that Queiroz has set to music. Her artistic journey reflects a deep connection to the rich traditions of Brazilian popular music, encompassing samba and other genres, and a commitment to artistic expression through song.
