Biography
Carne de Segunda is a Brazilian rock band formed in 1996 in Rio de Janeiro. With a peculiar aesthetic and a sound rooted in rock, the band stands out for mixing influences ranging from Sonic Youth and Devo to Dick Dale's surf music, along with elements of Zumbi do Mato and the "baianidade" of Novos Baianos. This sonic fusion results in a diverse repertoire that encompasses both instrumental and vocal songs.
Throughout their career, Carne de Segunda has performed on several important stages of the Rio underground scene, such as Humaitá Pra Peixe, Loud!, Casa da Matriz, and Fundição Progresso. The band has also participated in cultural events, such as those by poet Chacal, and opened notable shows, including the closing of Los Hermanos' "Ventura" tour at Canecão. Alongside the band's activities, its members have worked as backing musicians for artists such as Jorge Mautner, Branco Mello and S. Futurismo, Lucas Santana, and Nervoso, among others.
Carne de Segunda was in the final stage of recording their first independent CD, produced by Pedro Sá and Bartolo. Prior to that, the band released two demos and had the song "Tema Universal das Carnes" featured on TV Globo's show Muvuca and on the compilation "CEP 20000, o Celeiro Carioca," included as an insert in Trip magazine. The band's music has also been broadcast on radio stations such as Imprensa FM and Fluminense FM.
