Biography

Carreiro & Capataz is a prominent Brazilian sertanejo and música caipira duo originating from Mato Grosso, deeply rooted in traditional country culture. The original formation consisted of João Sérgio Batista Corrêa Filho, known as João Carreiro, and Hilton Cesar Serafim da Silva, known as Capataz, who drew inspiration from legendary acts like Tião Carreiro & Pardinho. Their breakthrough hits such as "Desatino," "Lágrimas de Crocodilo," and the nationwide phenomenon "Bruto, Rústico e Sistemático"—which was featured in the Globo telenovela Paraíso—solidified their status within the Brazilian country music scene.

Following health struggles and a temporary hiatus due to João Carreiro's battle with depression, the original duo officially dissolved in 2014. João Carreiro subsequently pursued various solo projects and collaborations, including the album Brutos de Verdade with Jads & Jadson, before his untimely passing in January 2024. Meanwhile, Capataz continued the legacy by forming a new iteration of the musical partnership alongside singer Gustavo Santana de Sá.

The duo's musical style successfully bridged traditional rural roots with commercial appeal, notably showcased in their acclaimed 2011 release Lado A / Lado B. Their contributions to the sertanejo genre remain influential, celebrated for their authentic depiction of rural characters and simple caboclo lifestyle. Today, they are remembered as central figures in modern Brazilian country music, sharing stylistic affinities with artists such as Almir Sater and Mato Grosso & Mathias.
