Biography

Cascatinha & Inhana was a sertanejo duo formed by the married couple Francisco dos Santos (Cascatinha) and Ana Eufrosina da Silva Santos (Inhana). They became one of the biggest names in Brazilian sertanejo music, known for their vocal harmony and for being pioneers in introducing Latin music influences, such as Paraguayan guarânia, to the genre.

Born in the interior of São Paulo, Francisco (Araraquara, April 20, 1919 – São José do Rio Preto, March 14, 1996) and Ana (Araras, March 28, 1923 – São Paulo, June 11, 1981) met in 1941 and, after forming Trio Esmeralda with Natalício Fermino dos Santos (Chopp), consolidated the duo Cascatinha & Inhana. Their career took off in 1952 with the hits "Índia" and "Meu Primeiro Amor", which led them to be known as "Os Sabiás do Sertão".

Throughout their career, the duo recorded about 30 albums, participated in films, performed in circuses, theaters, and on radio, and won several awards, including Gold Records. Inhana's soprano voice is considered one of the most perfect in Brazil, and Cascatinha stood out for a unique vocal resource, the nasal "pistom" or "trumpet", imitating wind instrument sounds. The artistic and marital partnership lasted 40 years, ending with Inhana's death in 1981. Cascatinha continued his solo career until his passing in 1996.
