Biography

Otto Enrique Trepte, better known as Casquinha da Portela, was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro on December 1, 1922. He built a remarkable career in the Rio de Janeiro samba scene, standing out as a singer and songwriter and joining the traditional composers' wing of Portela, one of Brazil's most important samba schools.

His work and cultural background reflect the essence of roots samba, dialoguing with the rich musical tradition of renowned figures from Portela and traditional Brazilian samba, such as Paulinho da Viola and Candeia.

Casquinha passed away on October 2, 2018, at the age of 95, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, a victim of generalized infection resulting from renal failure, after spending days hospitalized in a hospital in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro.
